Sugar and Spice is genuinely unlike anywhere you will have seen or been before. We are located in Competa in the Axarquia region of the Costa del Sol. The shop was created in 2005 by us, Debbie & Andy Wilkes, in an old donkey bodega in our traditional Andalucian town house, lovingly converted to create an exciting space brimming with luscious, yummy delights and great ideas. In October 2009 the furniture side of the business was expanded to a larger location just across the street. Even with the larger furniture location we still didn’t have enough space for all the lovely things we were finding and they were starting to attract attention from further afield. In 2014 we delivered furniture along the coast from Mojacar to Sotogrande and inland to Arcos de la Frontera and some beautiful properties in the mountains behind Marbella. We even shipped some items to New Zealand. This prompted us to launch our online furniture store La Casa Bella.
With both the shop and the website we strive to keep things fresh and changing. We’ll always have our core products, from herbs and spices to Moroccan decor but we’re also constantly searching for the new & exciting. There are just so many gorgeous bits out there to share with you.It is still very much a work in progress, we are adding new items every day and will be for the foreseeable future, there are just so many gorgeous bits out there to share with you.
Sugar & Spice is a community shop, it is a haven from the mass production, hard sell ethos that has overtaken the rest of the world. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal and that’s the way we like it.
We are also passionate about the importance of giving back to our community and Sugar & Spice has become a well-known supporter of local organisations, charities & causes. In 2014 we were presented with an award by the Ayuntamiento for integration into and services to the community. We are very proud of this recognition.

We are Debbie and Andy Wilkes, we both love to travel. I’m passionate about colours and fabrics, particularly saris. I love to wander round the souks of Morocco although I'm also very happy in the John Lewis cushion department. Andy is a foodie and is in charge of the food buying for the shop, and usually making dinner too. We’ve added 3 cats to the family since moving here, one that adopted us and one came out of a bin at a few hours old and had to be bottle fed every 2 hours. If you have any queries or you’d just like to contact someone real please do send us a mail, dropl in, or give us a call.
