The reoccurring message we hear from our customers is “why can’t you move your shop to the bottom of the hill?”
When we opened Sugar and Spice in 2005 having the shop in the basement of our house made sense financially, but we were very aware being tucked away without vehicular access was not ideal for our customers. Based on this and the time needed to run the furniture side of our business – lacasabella.es – we are pleased to announce that from 3rd of September 2017 the food section will my managed by and based out of Todo Papel at Avenida de la Constitución, 31, Cómpeta.
It makes sense on many levels, clearly we have many customers in common but there are a lot of people that have never managed to get to our shop. A new location next to the car park will be more convenient for almost everyone.
So what will change? There is more space at Todo Papel We’ll have more shelf space for food which will allow us to introduce more lines. It’s designed to be a shop, the space is more practical, we hope that it will be easier to find what you are looking for. The space is also more flexible which means we can adapt with the seasons. They are open longer hours and with a combined team we will have better stock control, order management and customer service. As more Spanish supermarkets sell some foreign products we will focus on providing the best selection of core products at the best prices available; and a large selection of non core products. We sell herbs and spices from asafoetida to zatar. If we haven’t got it, we’ll try and track it down. Our customers love to bake and baking products are constantly in demand. The global vegetarian trend hasn’t passed Cómpeta by and our range of vegetarian foods continues to increase. There are many new products that we are looking at including an epicurean range that includes amongst other things different oils, tapenades and condiments. In retail terms Chri… oh no, it’s too soon to mention the C word but believe me we’re already planning for December.
So what does it mean for our existing shop at Calle Cazadores are we shutting down? Most certainly not we have great plans. Click here to find out more

We are Debbie and Andy Wilkes, we both love to travel. I’m passionate about colours and fabrics, particularly saris. I love to wander round the souks of Morocco although I'm also very happy in the John Lewis cushion department. Andy is a foodie and is in charge of the food buying for the shop, and usually making dinner too. We’ve added 3 cats to the family since moving here, one that adopted us and one came out of a bin at a few hours old and had to be bottle fed every 2 hours. If you have any queries or you’d just like to contact someone real please do send us a mail, dropl in, or give us a call.
