Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, which consists of 12 months and lasts for about 354 days. The word “Ramadan” is derived from an Arabic word for intense heat, scorched ground and shortness of food and drink. It is considered to be the most holy and blessed month.
I hope this isn’t blasphemous and I certainly don’t want to offend but from a business perspective it’s challenging. The official line is that during Ramadan many Islamic businesses and organisations may amend opening hours to suit prayer times. I can’t speak for the rest of the world but in Morocco, time, which flows fairly erratically anyway, slows down even further and everything grinds to a complete halt. Practicing Muslims observe a fast between the hours of sunrise and sunset, which isn’t really conducive to building furniture.
In their defence you can only be so productive on an empty stomach. I get quite ratty if I miss breakfast.
The month following Ramadan is also quite chaotic as they work their way through a backlog of orders. it’s not all doom and gloom, we have built up a good selection of contacts both here in Spain and Morocco over the years which helps see us through Ramadan every year (inshallah).
However if you’re planning on buying any Moroccan items I would suggest that if possible you order as soon as possible, we’re quite happy to hold onto your orders until you are ready to have them delivered
The timing of Ramadan is a little imprecise, over the next few years these are the projected dates

We are Debbie and Andy Wilkes, we both love to travel. I’m passionate about colours and fabrics, particularly saris. I love to wander round the souks of Morocco although I'm also very happy in the John Lewis cushion department. Andy is a foodie and is in charge of the food buying for the shop, and usually making dinner too. We’ve added 3 cats to the family since moving here, one that adopted us and one came out of a bin at a few hours old and had to be bottle fed every 2 hours. If you have any queries or you’d just like to contact someone real please do send us a mail, dropl in, or give us a call.
